Why it matters

Mäder has proposed me and pa from a cylinder seal, published by Garbini in 2004, that labels Akhenaten's three daughters in Byblos signs in the same scene as the Berlin family stela, where their names are in hieroglyphs; the paper is forthcoming[1]. Hoch's derivation from Egyptian consonant signs would, if right, predict the consonant of each derived sign[2][3]. Hoch's reading of four lines on fragment l as Egyptian hieratic shows that Egyptian writing and the Byblos script were used side by side[4].
