## What it's used for here

The standard account of proto-cuneiform (Uruk IV-III, c. 3300-3000 BC): about 5,000 tablets with numerical systems, commodity signs, totals and lexical lists, understood through their arithmetic although the language is uncertain. Used here as the test case of what a genuine early administrative script looks like against which the Vinča material is measured. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, ISBN 0-226-58659-6.
