## What it's used for here

Survey of more than 1,000 inscribed fired-clay objects with over 1,500 signs from 17 museum collections and over 40 Vinča sites; about 95 per cent of well-recorded finds come from houses and their pits, so the signs belong to domestic life. Starović argues the signs are a regular system of written communication, perhaps carried by craftsmen and traders. Documenta Praehistorica 32: 253-260. Open access.
