# Mapping the chronology of an ancient cosmovision: 4000 years of continuity in Pecos River style mural painting and symbolism

Karen L. Steelman, Carolyn E. Boyd, J. Phil Dering, 2025. _Science Advances 11(48), eadx7205_.

Direct AMS radiocarbon dates on the organic carbon in paint, extracted by plasma oxidation, with oxalate dates above and below the paint as a check, for 12 Pecos River style murals; Bayesian modelling of the style's start and end; microscopy of paint layers at eight murals showing a fixed colour order and single painting events. Does not date the White Shaman mural itself.
