# Planet Hunters IX. KIC 8462852 – where's the flux?

T. S. Boyajian, D. M. LaCourse, S. A. Rappaport et al., 2016. _Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society 457(4), 3988–4004_.

The discovery paper. Planet Hunters volunteers flagged irregular, aperiodic dips of up to about 20 per cent in the Kepler light curve of an otherwise ordinary F-type main-sequence star with no infrared excess. The team rules out instrumental causes, weighs a range of scenarios and favours a family of exocomet or planetesimal fragments.
