# Mechanisms of slab avalanche release and impact in the Dyatlov Pass incident in 1959

Johan Gaume, Alexander M. Puzrin, 2021. _Communications Earth & Environment_.

An analytical and numerical model of how the group's cut into the slope, followed by hours of wind-loading, could release a small slab avalanche that strikes the tent and produces the rib and skull fractures found, with the delay, the small size and the missing debris accounted for. Communications Earth & Environment 2, 10 (28 January 2021).
