# Large Pt anomaly in the Greenland ice core points to a cataclysm at the onset of Younger Dryas

Michail I. Petaev, Shichun Huang, Stein B. Jacobsen et al., 2013. _Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 110(32), 12917–12920_.

Trace-element analysis of GISP2 ice across the Bølling-Allerød/Younger Dryas boundary finds a large platinum anomaly without a matching iridium anomaly. The Pt/Ir ratio rules out mantle or chondritic sources; the authors suggest an Ir-poor iron meteorite, which they note is unlikely to produce an airburst or wide wildfires.
