# Late second–early first millennium BC abrupt climate changes in coastal Syria and their possible significance for the history of the Eastern Mediterranean

D. Kaniewski, E. Paulissen, E. Van Campo et al., 2010. _Quaternary Research 74(2), 207–215_.

Pollen from alluvial deposits at Gibala-Tell Tweini indicates drier conditions from the late 13th or early 12th century BC to the 9th century BC; the first burning of Gibala is contemporary with the destruction of Ugarit, then dated between 1194 and 1175 BC.
