# Early evolution of small body size in Homo floresiensis

Yousuke Kaifu, Iwan Kurniawan, Soichiro Mizushima et al., 2024. _Nature Communications 15: 6381_.

An adult humerus fragment (SOA-MM9) and two teeth from Mata Menge, about 700,000 years old. The humerus is estimated 9-16% shorter and thinner than LB1's, smaller than any other Plio-Pleistocene adult hominin humerus; one tooth resembles early Javanese H. erectus. Concludes the lineage most likely evolved from early Asian H. erectus and was already tiny by 700 ka.
