# Physics and chemistry of the shroud of turin

L.A. Schwalbe, R.N. Rogers, 1982. _Analytica Chimica Acta 135(1): 3-49_.

The summary of the 1978 Shroud of Turin Research Project (STURP) examination: photography, UV fluorescence, reflectance and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, radiography and microscopy. The body image is a superficial yellowing of the topmost fibrils, not a pigment layer; no single image-forming mechanism was identified.
