# Meroitic Inscriptions (Chapter IX of Randall-MacIver and Woolley, Areika)

Francis Llewellyn Griffith, 1909. _D. Randall-MacIver and C. L. Woolley, Areika. Eckley B. Coxe Junior Expedition to Nubia, vol. 1. Oxford_.

Griffith's first treatment of the cursive funerary texts found by the 1907 expedition. Surveys the earlier work and identifies the clue Lepsius had found: a bark stand from the temple of Wad ban Naga, taken to Berlin, on which a king and queen wrote their names in both Egyptian and Meroitic hieroglyphs. From it and the cursive parallels he sets out sign values.
