# 'Smoking gun' evidence of Lost Colony's relocation to Hatteras Island makes international news

Local report (15 May 2025) of Mark Horton and Scott Dawson's claim that hammerscale from blacksmithing, recovered from 2024 excavations in Buxton and Frisco by sieving, flotation and magnet, lies in a 16th-century layer, with animal teeth from the same layer dated by a partner laboratory at UC Irvine to the late 1500s. Mentions other finds (reworked iron tools, a bronze Tudor rose, a Nuremberg counter). Cites no paper or laboratory report.
