# Soloist evaluations of six Old Italian and six new violins

Claudia Fritz, Joseph Curtin, Jacques Poitevineau et al., 2014. _Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 111, 7224–7229_.

Ten soloists blind-tested six Old Italian violins (five by Stradivari) and six new ones in a rehearsal room and a 300-seat hall. Six of ten chose a new violin to take on tour, and soloists could not tell new from old better than chance.
