# Player preferences among new and old violins

Claudia Fritz, Joseph Curtin, Jacques Poitevineau et al., 2012. _Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 109, 760–763_.

Double-blind test in which 21 experienced violinists compared six violins, new ones and old ones by Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù, in a room with dry acoustics. The most-preferred violin was new, the least-preferred a Stradivari, and most players could not tell whether their favourite was new or old.
