# The Karanovo seal

SealKaranovo VI, late Chalcolithic, later 5th millennium BC

[Cite]

A clay stamp seal, a disc 6 cm across and 2 cm thick with a handle, found by Georgi Georgiev at the Karanovo tell near Nova Zagora, Bulgaria. Its face carries straight abstract signs divided into four fields by the arms of a cross. It belongs to the late Chalcolithic Karanovo VI horizon, later than the Vinča material, and is often grouped with it in Danube script literature; proposed readings as constellations are not accepted.
