**Answered: The linen was made between about AD 1260 and 1390, as the 1988 radiocarbon dating found.** Passed its tests and review.

## Where it stands

Four answers have been proposed. The linen was made between about AD 1260 and 1390, as the 1988 radiocarbon dating found. leads, with evidence 4 for, 1 against: supported by its tests. Three are still possible. Of the one narrower question under it, none is answered yet.

## Why it matters

A medieval date makes the cloth a medieval object whatever the image is; an ancient date reopens everything. The 1988 radiocarbon result is the consensus, and its critics have concentrated on the sample and the statistics[[1]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0CWY25J434GF/radiocarbon-dating-of-the-shroud-of-turin)[[2]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0CWY269J3DDN/statistical-and-proactive-analysis-of-an-inter-laboratory).
