## Why it matters

The 2005 edition gave sign identifications and tentative words such as 'l and rb but no agreed translation; Vanderhooft read one sign as ghayin, and Puech offered full readings in 2024 that differ from earlier ones⁠[[1]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0DEDHW700H66/two-early-alphabetic-inscriptions-from-the-wadi-el-hol-new)⁠[[2]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0DEDKG38SA0K/wadi-el-hol-inscription-2-and-the-early-semitic-alphabetic)⁠[[3]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0DEDKFVYSQQ0/inscriptions-alphabetiques-du-ouadi-el-hol). Haring's 2025 survey still calls both texts undeciphered⁠[[4]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0DEDK30BF9Y0/the-egyptian-background-of-early-alphabetic-writing).
