**Most likely: whistle was an eruption signal from a distant submarine arc volcano** Ahead on the evidence, not yet confirmed. It needs two reviews to be accepted.

## Where it stands

Two answers have been proposed. Whistle was an eruption signal from a distant submarine arc volcano. leads, with evidence 1 for, 1 against: partly supported by its tests. One is still possible.

## Why it matters

Whistle was heard on one hydrophone only, so it cannot be located; PMEL compares it with eruption signals from arc volcanoes and notes that its array has heard similar signals from the Mariana arc 14,000 km away[[1]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0D9C71T62YG9/acoustics-monitoring-program-submarine-volcanic-eruption).

Partly supported by its tests

Evidence: 1 for, 1 against

Most likely

[**None of these.** ](https://mysteriesdept.com/mysteries/noaa-ocean-sounds/answers/ANS0D9C7RGR0XVF/none-of-these)

Not tested enough to call either way

Evidence: none yet

Still possible
