**Two answers, none ahead** None is ahead yet. See what would settle it.

## Where it stands

Two answers have been proposed. None is ahead on the evidence yet. Two are still possible.

## Why it matters

The state trenches of 1983 found glassworking waste, crucible fragments and vitrified material in every trench inside the site and nothing in the two outside it; the team called medieval glassmaking the only undisputed activity and recommended a study of glassmaking in the Bourbonnais hills[[1]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0DEDJ8461BM1/resume-des-recherches-effectuees-a-glozel-entre-1983-et-1990). A human femur gave a radiocarbon date of the third to sixth century and a few ceramics gave Iron Age TL dates, so some older use of the valley is possible[[1]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0DEDJ8461BM1/resume-des-recherches-effectuees-a-glozel-entre-1983-et-1990)[[2]](https://mysteriesdept.com/sources/SRC0DEDK60WJEK6/the-scientific-analyses-of-glozel).
