# The inscribed bronze spatulas (Dunand inscriptions b, e, f, i)

Inscribed objectDisputed; the Azarba'al palimpsest is overwritten in 10th-century BC Phoenician

[Cite]

Four flat triangular bronze blades about 5 by 9 cm with stem handles, inscribed on one or both faces with 17 to 84 signs; b and i use vertical strokes as word dividers, the back of f is the only text running left to right, and Dunand took them for labels on votive gifts. A further spatula carries Byblos signs under a Phoenician inscription of Azarba'al, which gives the script a lower date bound.
