# Codicology

The study of a book as an object: its parchment, quires, binding and marks of use.

[Rohonc Codex](https://mysteriesdept.com/mysteries/rohonc-codex)

How a manuscript was physically made and what happened to it: the preparation of its skins, the folding and order of its gatherings, its ruling, binding, repairs and later numbering. For the Voynich Manuscript, codicology shows that the folios have been reordered and rebound, which matters for any reading that depends on their sequence.
